The Centre of Excellence for Cut Flowers at Thally was honored by the visit of the esteemed Director of Horticulture and Plantation Crops. During the visit, the Director reviewed the ongoing activities, infrastructure, and training programs being conducted at the centre. Impressed by the potential and progress made so far, the Director provided valuable instructions to further enhance the performance and sustainability of the centre.
The Director emphasized the need to strengthen farmer training modules with a focus on modern floriculture techniques, post-harvest management, value addition, and market linkage strategies. He advised the team to introduce innovative practices such as high-density planting, integrated pest management, and precision farming to improve flower quality and yield.
To boost the income generation capacity of the centre, the Director recommended developing value-added products like floral arrangements, bouquets, and eco-friendly packaging solutions. He encouraged collaboration with e-commerce platforms and wholesale buyers to expand market reach and increase profitability. Additionally, the introduction of floriculture-based skill development programs for rural youth and women was suggested to promote entrepreneurship and employment opportunities in the region.
This visit marks a renewed commitment to transforming the Centre of Excellence for Cut Flowers, Thally, into a model hub for floriculture development in Tamil Nadu. With focused efforts and farmer-centric innovations, the centre aims to empower growers, enhance income, and contribute significantly to the state’s horticulture sector.
