Cutflower Cultivation Production
Cutflowers:
The CoE cultivates and demonstrates several types of cut flowers, including Rose, Carnation, Gerbera, Orchids, Gladiolus, Chrysanthemum, Hydrangea, Bird of Paradise, Heliconia, Ginger lily, and Aster.
• Filler Crops:
In addition to the main cut flowers, the CoE also cultivates filler crops which are grouped under the "Cutflowers" section in the source, namely Gypsophila, Limonium, Golden rod, and Daisy.
• Cut Foliages:
The center also produces and demonstrates various cut foliages like Song of India, Song of Jamaica, Cordyline Mahatma, Palms, Xanadu, Cypress, Asparagus, Murraya paniculata, and Dracaena massangeana. While primarily foliages, some like Ginger lily are mentioned in both cut flower and cut foliage lists and are integral to the production and demonstration activities.
Cultivation Areas and Methods:
Cultivation and demonstration activities take place in different controlled and open environments:
• Poly Green House:
Used for demonstration cum production of cut flowers such as Gerbera, Carnation, Orchids, Rose, and Gypsophila. Roses are specifically mentioned as being under Poly Green House cultivation. Sprinkler irrigation is used for Dendrobium Orchids cultivation under poly green houses. Technologies like foggers are used here to control temperature and humidity. The CoE has 11980 sq.m of Poly Green House infrastructure, including Naturally Ventilated Poly houses.
• Shade Net House:
Used for demonstration cum production of cut foliages like Song of India, Song of Jamaica, Cordyline Mahatma, Ginger lily, Dracaena massangeana, Palms, Xanadu, Asparagus, Daisy, Golden rod, and Limonium. Dracaena is mentioned as being under Shadenet. Cut foliages & cut flowers such as Dracaena massangeana, Xanadu, Cordyline Mahatma, Song of India, Song of Jamaica and Ginger lily are specifically listed as cultivating under shade nets. The CoE has 13500 sq.m of Shade net house infrastructure.
• Open Fields:
Used for demonstration cum production of cut flowers and cut foliages like Aster, chrysanthemum, bird of paradise, heliconia, asparagus, cypress, blue daisy, golden rod, Gladiolus and Murraya. Asparagus, Murraya, Blue Daisy, Palms and Dracaena are cultivated in the open field.
Technologies Adopted from Israel:
Several technologies adopted from Israel are integral to the cultivation process:
• Drip irrigation system for water use Efficiency (WuE). Open Field Drip & Fertigation is also implemented.
• Fertigation:
Delivers optimum fertilizers to plants through water using an Automation Unit. An Automation Fertigation Unit is part of the physical infrastructure.
• Foggers:
Used to control temperature and humidity, particularly in polyhouses. Foggers and Sprinklers cover 4000 sq.m.
• Protected cultivation of various cut flowers under poly green houses.
• Open field cultivation of cut foliages.
• Cultivation under shade nets for specific cut foliages and flowers.
• Wide usage of mulching sheet to control soil erosion, soil temperature, and weed growth.
• Weed control mat:
Used in polyhouses, shade net houses, and open field cultivation to control weeds and conserve moisture.
• Tensiometer:
Used to measure the actual water requirement of plants.
• Yellow and blue sticky traps:
Used to monitor pest populations for required control measures.
New Technologies Developed/Demonstrated:
The CoE also undertakes research and demonstration of new technologies:
• Production of Gold crest plant (Cupressus macrocarpa) from successfully rooted cuttings in different media, demonstrated to local farmers' nurseries.
• Demonstrating the usage of weed control mat in cut flowers and cut foliage crops.
• Demonstrating Soil-less cultivation for Orchids using Coconut Husk under the Poly green house.

Gerbra Cultivation
Gerbera cultivation at the Centre of Excellence for Cutflowers (CoE) in Thally is a core activity focused on Demonstration cum Production. Gerbera is listed as one of the primary cutflowers cultivated at the CoE.
The cultivation of Gerbera takes place specifically within the Poly Green House infrastructure at the Centre. This protected environment is highlighted as a technology adopted from Israel for the cultivation of various cut flowers, including Gerbera. The CoE has a substantial area dedicated to Poly Green Houses, totaling 11980 sq.m. The cultivation in these polyhouses serves both to demonstrate advanced techniques to farmers, entrepreneurs, and other institutions, and for the production of flowers. Orchids Cultivation
Orchid cultivation is a significant activity at the Centre of Excellence for Cutflowers (CoE) in Thally, part of the Indo-Israel Agriculture Project. Orchids are listed as one of the primary cutflowers cultivated at the CoE.
Cultivation takes place under protected conditions within the Poly Green House infrastructure. This protected cultivation of cut flowers, including Orchids, is a technology adopted from Israel. The activities at the CoE involve Demonstration cum Production of cutflowers like Orchids in Poly green houses.
Specific techniques mentioned for Orchid cultivation include Sprinkler irrigation for Dendrobium Orchids under poly green houses.
